As a former football player for the University of Iowa, I had the opportunity to visit sick kids on a regular basis at the University of Iowa's Stead Family Children's Hospital. These were truly incredible and rewarding experiences for me as I got to interact and brighten the day of kids who saw us as larger than life. My senior year at Iowa we began the now world famous "Iowa Wave" where the entire stadium, 70,000 strong, including players, coaches and opposing teams would turn and wave the kids in the Children's Hospital overlooking Kinnick Stadium. It was amazing to see how such a simple gesture could bring so much joy to kids going through the toughest of circumstances. Now that my days as a collegiate athlete are done I'm looking for new ways to give back and make an impact. And I believe I have found that with the D10, a charity decathlon in an effort to raise money for pediatric cancer research. With your support hopefully we can achieve a future where there are no sick kids left to wave to in the Children's Hospital overlooking Kinnick Stadium. Thank you and God bless!
